We worked to understand small-scale farmers and develop a product that represented their mindsets. The project was broken down into three phases: explore, conceptualize, and develop.
Next, we conceptualized what we had learned. After we created personas that reflected the variety of traits that we saw in our users and identified core values, we then began coming up with ideas and conducting co-designs with farmers. Some of the key traits that we identified were self-sufficiency, durability, efficiency, and versatility.

With the feedback we received, we came up with a product called “Snaps”. Snaps are a set of versatile, open-source, durable, and interchangeable interlocking panels. They can be used to construct a variety of structures that farmers use in their everyday lives, such as planter beds, crates, and tables. We received positive feedback on this product, and we believe would be extremely useful to small-scale farmers.
